We’re very excited to share our first installment of Digital Marketing Tips! Going forward, we’ll be sharing tips like these every month to help you grow your business through social media. Each month contains topics we’ve come across firsthand through our digital service and directly apply to anyone who wants to grow on social media! Here are the Digital Marketing Tips for January 2018:

Twitter & Instagram

  • Be SOCIAL – it’s Social Media. In addition to being fun, it’s the best way to organically increase your following and post engagement
  • Look for top and trending posts relevant to you and get in the conversation with witty and insightful comments
  • It’s far easier to organically grow your following on Twitter and Instagram than on Facebook. And with the recent News Feed announcement, this trend won’t stop any time soon
  • Using a mix of top Instagram hashtags and post-relevant hashtags performs best
  • Direct Messages (DMs) present an opportunity to convert leads in the long-run, however fans will unfollow and/or lose interest in your brand if you try to sell your product or service all the time

Facebook

  • Believe it or not, Facebook still has plenty of kinks from the Ads Manager standpoint, so sometimes you need to find ways to work around your initial campaign plan
    • Facebook can disable your Ad account from time to time if they suspect “unusual activity” – even if this “activity” is simply an existing account getting started with paid advertising for the first time
    • If disabled, any of your ads are put on pause for 1-2 days – so make sure to have your ad creative ready in time to allow for any delays
    • The only way to communicate directly with Facebook Support is through your Support Inbox on the platform. Unfortunately this lacks speed and a personal connection, and often you’ll get an automated response based on your situation
    • While the 20% text rule on images isn’t officially enforced like it used to be, Facebook still rewards ads with less text, in turn limiting your ad delivery if they determine there’s too much text. Best to continue to use a small amount of text in your ads
  • The more specific you get with your targeting criteria, the deeper you can get with your spend
    • Targeting interest groups such as Shark Tank, Gary Vaynerchuk, etc. allow you to reach more people than targeting fans of your page and their friends
    • You can always narrow your age range more than you think
    • If you don’t specify, the vast majority of your Facebook ad placements will trend to mobile devices – especially iPhone (sometimes even over 90%)
  • Facebook’s “Slideshow” ad format is an effective tool for easily creating GIFs with still images. And it comes with a range of music options for you to choose from
