Membership in SOPHE comprises researchers,
academicians, practitioners, and students
interested or working in health behavior and
health education throughout the United States,
Canada, and some 20 foreign countries.  SOPHE
members hold key decision-making positions in
federal, state, and local public health
agencies; voluntary health organizations e.g.,
the American Heart Association, American Lung
Association; secondary schools and
universities; medical care, managed care and
HMO settings; worksites for major
corporations; and foreign health agencies,
universities, and governments.  Many of
SOPHE's members have advanced degrees in
public health, education, or the behavioral
and social sciences.  SOPHE has nine special
interest groups in professional preparation,
school health, community health, medical care/
patient education, workplace health,
international/cross-cultural health, health
communications/social marketing, anthropology
and public health, and students/new
professionals.  SOPHE is the only independent
organization exclusively devoted to public
health education.
